IMAGES OF HEREFORD PRESS RELEASE 15-06-06 ================================================================================================================ Images of Hereford is a collection of photographs taken by local photographer Christopher Preece representing a snapshot in time of the life of this rural city in the Welsh Marches. The images can be seen online at www.imagesofhereford.com. The city’s architecture ranges from a 12th Century Cathedral and Victorian Gothic Library to modern court buildings and what was once industrial land is now occupied by large superstores. Hereford is undergoing massive change, both physically and socially. Large-scale development is happening throughout the city, with further plans for redeveloping a huge area known as the Edgar Street Grid. The connections with Rural Herefordshire are loosening and the manufacturing industries, that once filled the void left by post war changes in agricultural employment, are being replaced by retail and service sector business. Change can be an ordeal that doesn’t always provide the solution that it should, however it can also breathe new life. Hereford is at a watershed, it is moving with the times but it is not clear in which direction it is headed. These images are intended to provide a view of where the city has been, where it is now and a glimpse at the future. This website is part of Architecture Week 2006, the annual national public celebration of contemporary architecture that first started in 1997. The Week explores architecture and the built environment via the arts and culture in an entertaining and informative way. The Week includes walks, talks, tours, maps, events, visits to new buildings and architects' practices, exhibitions, family and children's activities, films and picnics. Architecture Week is an Arts Council England and Royal Institute of British Architects initiative in association with the Architecture Centre Network. The gallery contains 96 Images of Hereford and the site also has a blog for you to leave your comments. You are encouraged to send your images of Hereford so that they can be added to the blog. ================================================================================================================ Christopher Preece can be contacted on 07814203215 or christopherpreece@gmail.com The website was designed by Infinity Unlimited (www.infinityunlimited.co.uk) info@infinityunlimited.co.uk
